On May 27, 2025, WordPress announced a major new feature: the creation of a team dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI). The aim? To coordinate, accelerate and oversee the development of AI-based functionalities in the WordPress universe. A key step in the evolution of the open source platform.

Why create an AI team at WordPress?
A strategic vision
Artificial intelligence is already transforming the way we create and manage content online. To ensure that initiatives don't go off in all directions, WordPress intends to oversee these developments with a centralized team that will respect community values and CMS standards.
Fostering collaborative innovation
Contributors and companies are already testing AI in various projects. This new team will offer convergence point a place to share ideas, collaborate and develop together.
A rapid pace of change
Like the Performance team, the AI team will adopt an approach "plugin first. This means that new features will be tested as plugins before being considered for the WordPress core, in order to gather feedback quickly and iterate efficiently.

- IA project coordination through the various WordPress teams.
- Publication of a public roadmapwith objectives and plugins under development.
- Close collaboration with the Core, Design, Accessibility teams, etc., to ensure smooth, standards-compliant integration.

The initial team brings together recognized experts in the open source ecosystem and performance:

- Pascal Birchler - Google
- Jeff Paul - 10up
James and Felix will play an important team representativesin charge of coordination and communication.
